Learning Fun in English Shining Bright @Heep Woh
-
Primary 1 had their fashion shows as they have been learning about clothes and the things they like to wear. They brought their outfits of choice to school and talked their friends through the items of clothes they selected. They practiced their speaking skills and it helped them with their confidence.
-
Students in Primary 2 are starting a Research Project about Endangered Animals. They have been using IPads to find out about different species of animals who face problems with survival.
-
They are preparing themselves for a small presentations; to share with their peers about the endangered animals the researched. The children are learning how to spread awareness and use their voices for good causes such as animal protection.
This is a question-based programme which focuses largely on guiding students to derive their own opinions and conclusions through a variety of different text sets (e.g. online resources, brochures, videos, storybooks, etc.) in contextualized situations related to everyday life. Its aim is to harvest students’ questioning minds and to seek their own answers using any available resources they can get.
A main focus question is introduced at the beginning of the unit and revisited throughout the unit with a list of guiding questions in each lesson to guide students to produce the final product at the end of the unit.
This year we implemented the program in J.4, the topic is on ‘habits.’ The main purpose of this unit is to have students differentiate and judge between good and bad habits, think of ways to develop good habits, and write a resolution letter to their future self as the final product of the unit.

This school year, the Step Up! Program focused on developing our students ‘21st Century Skills’.

Creativity
Students are encouraged not only to write creatively but to think creatively.
Our P4 students are especially eager to make predictions and offer alternatives. -
Communication
As second-language learners, students need opportunities to express their thoughts and feelings but also to respond to others. During ZOOM classes, Padletbecame a great platform for this.
-
Collaboration
Group projects foster teamwork and leadership skills as wellas initiative and responsibility. Our P5 students created theirown Magic Finger roleplays and presented them in class.
-
Critical Thinking
Using real-world examples encourages P.6 students to make meaningful observations, inferences, and evaluations, and solutions.
